Fishing Flies

Flies for the River Suir & Aherlow (Cahir Waters)

March/April:  Wet fly;  Green/Yellow Greenwells glory in spider and Winged Partridge spider in Gold/Silver/Yellow/Orange body.

March: Brown/ Silver / winged./ Iron Blue. Most Traditional Spider wet & Winged wet flies fish well. 

Nymphs/  phesant tail / Hares Ear/ Olive body gold heads work very well.

In sizes 10/12/14 hook size.

 

May: Wet flies;/ Black & Silver spider/ all Partridge variants Iron blue

Black/ Red/ Blue Pennell/ Black & orange spider/ Olives

Dry Fly;/ Ginger Quill/ Badger Black/ iron Blue/ B W Olive

CDC Patterns Most dry Flies work very well in all patterns

Nymphs;/ All Gold Head patterns work well / copper johns/ phesant tail patterns in different colour p-tail bodies are quiet effective.

 

June/July: From Mid May onwards most phesant tail patterns 

in sizes 12/14/16 hook size – going down in size depending on water levels

All sedge patterns / silver/ brown/ red/ orange/ etc all cdc patterns

in olive beige body colours work well/ Foam head sedges.

Dry sedge and dry cdc patterns work well as well as spider dry ginger/ B W Olive

 

August / Sept: can to of the best months especially late afternoon until dusk

Anglers fishing all cdc patterns nymphs and sedge patterns work very well/ Foam head sedges.

depending on water level small size hooks work extremly well.

 

All of the above work very well from Ballycarron down to Cahir. And below Cahir, Hatches of fly life are proliofic with good hatches of olives/ Black gnats & sedge patterns.

 

The highlight for most Anglers is the Evening rise in the summer time from mid May to the end of the fishing season with , nymph/dry & most sedge patterns,

Dry & Nymph patterns working best.

 

Below cahir  @ /Swiss cottage Liamys Lane & Ballybrado fishes best later in the Season.

Chest waders are a necessity for the serious Angler, but Thigh waders can be just as good.

Bank fishing is perfect as well, as all the clubs stretches are very accessible.

Whether you are a total beginner or very experienced Fly fisher.
